A good example will be the inspiring story of our SAF regular servicemen Jason Chee. In December 2012, he met with an accident on a navy ship, resulting in the loss of both legs, his left arm, and three fingers from his right hand.

Despite all adversity (event), he proceeded with rehab (response).

He returned to work after 18 months.

He continued pursuing his degree in SIM University.

Not forgetting his achievement as a Para-athlete winning two bronze medals and eventually winning his first ASEAN Para Game table tennis gold.

People that are successful understand that in life unpleasant events can happen. But they recognize that they can change the outcome of the events simply by changing their response to the events.

As Charles R. Swindoll said:

“I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it.”

As Cayden Chang said:

“How we react in an event guides the outcome. We cannot control the events and sometimes the outcome. However, we definitely can control our response, our reaction to an event thus guiding the outcome.”

So the next time your boss yells at you at 5 pm, remind yourself that unpleasant events can happen. But your response to your boss (event) can determine the outcome (to work overtime or not).
